Our Budget for Fiscal Year 1997

Note: The Administration announced its proposed FY 1997 budget on March 19, 1996. The House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Interior made its recommendations on June 5, 1996. The House floor action occurred on June 19-20, 1996, and the House approved the appropriations bill (H.R. 3662) by a vote of 242-174 on June 20, 1996.

Senate Appropriations subcommittee markup occurred on July 12, 1996. On July 16, 1996, the full Senate Appropriations committee passed the bill with no changes to the subcommittee's funding recommendations for the Fossil Energy programs. On September 13, 1996, the Senate began debate on the appropriations bill but was unable to complete floor action. The bill was included in the Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act for FY 1997 which the President signed into law on September 30, 1996.
