US-India Coal Working Group Meeting
September 22-24, 2009 (Washington, DC)


The sixth U.S.-India Energy Dialogue Coal Working Group (CWG) meeting was held in Washington, DC, on September 22-24, 2009. The meeting was chaired by U.S. Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy James Markowsky and Dr. S.P. Seth, Special Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Government of India. The lead U.S. coordinator was Barbara McKee, Director, Office of Clean Energy Collaboration, Office of Fossil Energy, and the lead coordinator for India was P.R. Mandal, Advisor (Projects), Ministry of Coal. The three day meeting began with a meeting on September 22nd featuring representatives of the Indian delegation and U.S. industry representatives discussing opportunities for greater collaboration in the area of coal. On September 23rd, representatives from the U.S. and Indian governments, industry, national laboratories, and research met to discuss ongoing CWG activities, identify and discuss additional opportunities for the CWG, discuss the sustainable utilization of coal, and witness a signing ceremony for the Simulator project awarded to Sharpe International. The U.S. delegation included several DOE Office of Fossil Energy representatives including Scott Miles, Lowell Miller, and Joseph Giove.
