TO IMPORT NATURAL GAS FROM CANADA
Boston Gas Company (Boston Gas) is authorized by the Office of Fossil Energy (FE) of the Department of Energy (DOE) in DOE/FE Opinion and Order No. 552 (Order 552), to import up to 35,000 Mcf per day of natural gas from Canada through March 31, 2007.(1) The authorization is predicated upon a long-term gas sales agreement, dated May 1, 1989, between Boston Gas and Imperial Oil Resources Limited (Imperial).(2) On December 17, 1998, FE issued DOE/FE Order No. 1445 (Order 1445) granting Boston Gas authorization to import from Imperial up to 43,200 Mcf per day of Canadian natural gas for a period of eight years commencing November 1, 1999, through March 31, 2007.(3) The import in Order 1445 will replace the Canadian gas supplies acquired from Imperial pursuant to Order 552. By letter dated December 8, 1998, Boston Gas requests Order 552 be rescinded and terminated November 1, 1999, to coincide with the effective date of Order 1445.
