Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Expanding the Nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve
This Draft EIS has been prepared and published in response to the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (P.L. 109-58), which directed the Department of Energy to select sites necessary to expand the Strategic Petroleum Reserve from its current 727 million barrel capacity to one billion barrels.
The Draft EIS addresses the potential environmental impacts of the proposed action of expanding the SPR through the expansions of three existing SPR sites, and the potential development of a new storage site(s) at: Chacahoula, LA; Clovelly, LA; Bruinsburg, MS; Richton, MS; and, Stratton Ridge, TX.
