Southwest Regional Partnership for Carbon Sequestration
Description:
The Southwest Regional Partnership (SWRP), led by the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, includes the states of New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, and portions of Texas, Wyoming, and Arizona. The SWRP will conduct five field tests (three geologic, two terrestrial) to validate the most promising carbon sequestration technologies and infrastructure concepts. The partnership proposes to conduct geologic tests in Utah, New Mexico, and Texas, as well as region-wide terrestrial analysis. The three geologic tests represent a variety of carbon sink targets, including deep saline sequestration, enhanced oil recovery and sequestration, and enhanced coalbed methane production and sequestration. The two terrestrial tests include a region-wide terrestrial project measuring soil and vegetation carbon and a riparian restoration project that will be conducted in coordination with the coalbed geologic sequestration project.
