Description:

MORE INFO

The West Coast Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership (WESTCARB), led by the California Energy Commission, includes Alaska, California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and British Columbia. WESTCARB will conduct a total of three geologic and two terrestrial field tests, along with two site characterizations for additional geologic tests. Two carbon dioxide (CO2) storage tests in California and one in Arizona are related to CO2 storage in depleting natural gas reservoirs and saline formations. A geologic site characterization in California involves an integrated demonstration combing power generation, CO2 capture, and EOR or saline sequestration. A geologic site characterization in Washington involves ECBM and/or saline formation storage near a large coal-fired power plant. The two terrestrial sequestration pilot projects involve afforestation opportunities and forest fuels management in Lake County, Oregon, and Shasta County, California. The Shasta pilot also includes forest conservation management.
